1820s Spanish Pistol

“In 1799 the 1st  first  ignition system  to use percussion  was  patented in the US . basically a flint lock breach refitted to work with percussion caps. witch was a for more effective and safer way to set off black powder. Now guns could be left loaded and fired even in the rain. There was no need to keep flint in a vice made into the hammer, nar did the powder dish need to be primed.

In effect a gun could now be loaded placed in holster , tucked in a belt or even bounced around on a wagon with out danger of losing the flint. Or accidentally setting off the powder dish.

Soon smaller pistols were being made in Spain often from one piece of brass. By 1820 a single shot small brass pistol was being made. I use the word small compared to a 2 foot pistol. In fact even the small pistols of the time were large by today’s standers.

These brass pistols have often been used by Costumers and movies as pirate pistols. But in fact didn’t become popular unto the very end of the pirate era.” (James Rhodes: the History of Victorian  Firearms)

This metal reproduction has a coating to give it the look of aged brass. and moving parts. but can  NOT be made to fire .
